So who went to WYES? I did and had a fantastic time! I know people were concerned about the $45 ticket price, but that was just at the door. I went to the WYES office Friday morning and picked up about 9 tickets for folks at $30 per ticket. Pretty reasonable considering the numbers of good beers all around. Double B, I went by Martin's to see if you were there and might want a ticket, but I didn't see you and one of your co-workers said that you weren't working that day.

It was easy to get around and try everything in about 1 hour, 45 minutes, which gave me a second chance to grab a few new things. Lakefront arena was a huge success and I hope they do not leave that venue.

Strong presence by home brew clubs!

The NOLA beers were excellent. Good job, Derek, slinging the brew. I promise I was more...cogent earlier in the evening. Kirk, your wife was great. You should make her one of the faces of the company. Y'all both bring so much positive energy to your beer! Looking forward to wider access of your brew besides the CCHB meeting and special events like WYES. I think the blond ale is a fantastic beer flagship, and the brown ale is great too! Can't wait to feature them in my kegerator.

I got to taste Lazy Magnolia's beer and enjoyed it. I'll have to do a Saturday tour.

Heiner Brau had good beers. You need to try the Maerzen if you haven't had it. Also, they had a fantastic mexican beer which had some good malty breadiness. HB's strawberry beer is just not for me. Hopefully, Henryk continues to work on his recipe to improve it and make it more drinkable.

Plus, I like to try a lot of offerings by the big boys and see what they're selling. For instance, I recall actually liking the Rolling Rock Red. Not a fantastic beer, but pretty drinkable. Got to have a Lowenbrau for the first time I can recall.

Who else went? What did you think?

It was pretty good. I would say Crescent City Homebrewers, Red Stick, and Mystic Krewe of Brew were all excellent. Several quality beers. Coconut Porter and Watermelon Wheat stands out in my mind.

I think the Watermelon Wheat was CCHB. My friend and I had to finish off their amber to free up a spot for them to hook up the Watermelon Wheat, and it was worth it.

I'm happy about NOLA Brewing opening up too. I'm not too fond of Blonde Ales, but the Brown was good, and he told me they had two other beers they were going to brew when they opened full time- a Watermelon Wheat and a Sweet Potato Pale Ale. SOunds good.

Also there was Unibroue and according to the sheet- Chimay.

All in all, a great beer tasting. Much better than last year.

Yeah that Watermelon Wheat that was at the CCH booth was made by Peter Caddoo, who is the brew master for NOLA. The Indian Sweet Potato Pale Ale is the other one they are working on now and its hoppy and amazing. The Barleywine and IPA from McGuire’s were really good too. Orval was right across from me so I drank a good amount of that too. Hope it’s at the Arena next year, the circle design worked real well for crowd flow.

Do not cease to drink beer, to eat, to intoxicate thyself, to make love, and to celebrate the good days.
